An interview with The Robot Heart

The Robot HeartAhead of tonight’s gig supporting Ben Ottewell from Gomez at The Hanbury we caught up The Robot Heart to get the low down on what this Brighton four piece are all about!

ou kicked off our Great Escape experience this year with your gig at the Fortunes Of War, was this your first performance for Brighton’s showcase festival? Did you enjoy the gig?

This was great actually we were playing overlooking the sea on a raised wooden platform in the bar like we were actually playing on a pirate ship type thing. I found out afterwards that people could only actually see our silhouettes with this bright white glare form the sky behind us. That it looked really ethereal. We went from that to the following day playing a press showcase in the skint records board room, which was really intimate and acoustic. Playing a gig for someone whose 2 feet away from you is intense, but it was lovely, and the lovely people from the press gave some great review, hurray. read more

Lovebox – Sunday goes all out for 2010!

Grace Jones, Hot Chip, Cut Copy, Horse Meat Disco, and many more head up the most outrageous, polysexual festival party on Sunday

Bombay Bicycle Club, These New Puritans, Toro Y Moi, Fenech Soler and more confirmed for the weekend

So you might have heard that London’s beloved Lovebox Weekender is going to be slightly different this year – it has now been expanded from two days to three days for a start, with the storied likes of Roxy Music, Ellie Goulding, Yeasayer, Mystery Jets, The Maccabees and the Noisettes playing alongside exclusive festival coups such as Empire of the Sun, Mark Ronson & The Business and others. And that’s before we mention the new additions – critically lauded art rockers These New Puritans, returning Australian champions Midnight Juggernauts, lush chillwave purveyors Toro Y Moi, rollicking chart toppers Bombay Bicycle Club, and Mercury Music Prize nominees The Invisible among them. What you may (or may not!) have heard is that this year, Sunday is also going to be really rather different. Rather radically different, actually.

New York New York + Patchy + Oliver Melville

After another fantastic Summer Terrace Party on Saturday we are back Above Audio tomorrow night with a most exciting line up!!

New York New York

Having formed at the beginning of 2010 New York New York have become one of the most talked about bands in Brighton, even The Maccabees have been asking after them. With a number of gigs under their belt they have proved time after time that they have got what it takes to provide an entertaining evening.

Patchy

Patchy began in early 2008, initially as an acoustic two piece. The success of the bands initial EP “This One’s For You” recorded at the iconic Monnow Valley Studios led to a second release that summer, in conjunction with their appearance at Monmouth and Jamstand Festivals. After converting into a three piece the band have continued developing their alternative, distinctive sound, releasing demo’s in prepration for a full release later this year.

Oliver Melville

Influenced by Stephen King novels, Counciling, Court Hearing’s, and Train Journey’s Ollie is quite the individual! Come check out his beautiful acoustic set in the ambience of our favourite cocktail bar!

Kele live review 24.06.10

Judging by the amount of Bloc Party T-shirts on display tonight at least half of Kele’s audience must be hoping to hear some of his earlier output. Despite a Bloc Party medley and the final track, however, the night is all about his new material.

Kele steps out onto the stage with his new band featuring Tommy Sparks, a strangely familiar drummer and a female vocalist/keyboard player. Having heard reports of his stage presence being underwhelming at Bloc Party gigs it’s a pleasure to see him interacting with the crowd and commanding the focus despite having little more to do than sing.

Clash Stage line up confirmed at this year’s Big Chill festival

Eel Pie Island indie group Mystery Jets are amongst the acts confirmed for the Clash stage at The Big Chill.

Held in the Herefordshire countryside, The Big Chill is a different breed of festival. The organisers seem to care for your ears, with a laid back audience able to take in performances from some big names acts.

This year headliners include Massive Attack, M.I.A. and Radiohead singer Thom Yorke. Making a very rare solo appearance, Yorke will bring his Atoms For Peace collective to British shores for the very first time.

In a joint announcement the organisers of The Big Chill and Clash Magazine can confirm the bill for the Clash Stage.

Bombay Bicycle Club announce tour dates which includes Brighton and the release of their new acoustic album

‘Flaws’ (released, 12th July) is the stunningly beautiful, new acoustic album by Bombay Bicycle Club.

Having finished recording their debut LP ‘I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose’ in February 2009, the band went straight back into the studio (The Church, Crouch End) days after they submitted the master for ‘I Had The Blues’, and started the initial recordings for this album.

Recorded in between touring over the past year and a half, a few early tracks were laid down at The Church and produced by Neill MacColl (guitarist Jamie’s Dad), but the rest was recorded in singer, Jack Steadman’s bedroom and produced by Jack himself.

‘Flaws’ is characterised by a delicate, heart-swelling beauty and lightness of touch throughout. Those that had BBC pegged merely as an indie band may need to re-think.
